Graduate Certificate in Patent Advocacy

In conjunction with National University, the Center has developed a graduate program in patient advocacy with the goal of preparing professionals to work as patient advocate specialists, patient representatives, and ombudsmen. Patient advocates guide patients and their families through the American healthcare system. Patient advocates work to protect and enhance patients’ rights and become agents of change healthcare systems. They are trained to be leaders and communication specialists who empower others and work collaboratively with healthcare providers to mediate conflict and facilitate positive change in the both the lives of patients and in the healthcare industry. Admission to this program requires a bachelor’s degree, and students must complete two-thirds of the program in residence at National University. Students take courses in creative leadership, negotiation, mediation, personal and professional ethics, and seminars in patient advocacy.
